Karachay communities are documented in Karachay-Cherkessia and Stavropol Krai. They share a closely connected language tradition with Balkars.[13]
Karachays and Balkars share the Turkic language conventionally called Karachay-Balkar, with regional varieties. Two people profiles can share one language source.[13]
Fieldwork from 2000–2005 documents Sunni Hanafi traditions and varied religious practices among Karachay communities. It does not establish a current whole-people percentage.[6]
No comparable people-wide religious percentage is established here. Regional survey results are available separately, where covered.
