Nogai communities extend across several North Caucasus regions and the Astrakhan area. Their geography is not confined to one republic.[16]
Nogai belongs to the Kipchak group of Turkic. The profile distinguishes Qara Nogai, Aq Nogai and Nogai varieties across several North Caucasus regions.[16]
Fieldwork from 2000–2005 documents Sunni Hanafi traditions and varied religious practices among Nogai communities. It does not establish a current whole-people percentage.[6][16]
