Authorised MoD military posts 2005–2026Coverage and method
Legal ceiling on Ministry of Defence military posts for each stated year, from annual laws or parliamentary resolutions. This is authorised establishment, not an observed serving headcount, reserve total or readiness measure. The 2005 wider whole-force total includes border guards, which are excluded here. Consolidated final limits are used for years amended during the year; they are not annual averages. Legal exceptions vary by year and remain in the original text.
Authorised limit, not actual personnel. Later laws exempt wartime/emergencies, reserve call-ups and temporary posts.
