Rosstat national census coverage, including Crimea and Sevastopol, internationally recognized as Ukrainian territory. 2021 census count reproduced in original RAS-authored research. It is not an independent headcount, a language-user total or a current population estimate.
Tatar communities extend across the Volga–Urals and beyond Tatarstan. Local identities and religious traditions are diverse.[18][24]
Census sources may include this community within a broader category. Parent and subgroup counts must not be added together; each record retains the source’s classification.
Tatar is a Turkic language with Middle and Mishar varieties.[18]
Scholarly descriptions document Sunni Hanafi traditions and Orthodox Kryashen communities. These traditions do not determine the affiliation of every Tatar.[24][23]
No comparable people-wide religious percentage is established here. Regional survey results are available separately, where covered.
