Industry overview

AKSUNGUR is Turkish Aerospace’s twin-engine medium-altitude long-endurance UAV programme. The company describes surveillance, reconnaissance and other military applications, alongside civilian search-and-rescue and disaster assessment. It is recorded separately from ANKA even where the manufacturer identifies shared avionics architecture and ground support; common infrastructure does not establish identical aircraft configurations.[8]

PD170: ANKA, AKSUNGUR and TB3

Documented recordManufacturer announcement

TEI’s V2025/2 brochure dates PD170 first flights on ANKA to 27 December 2018, AKSUNGUR to 4 October 2021 and TB3 to 27 October 2023. These are platform-specific engine milestones. They do not support treating PD170 as a verified fleet-wide TB2 replacement for Rotax.[222]

Development & production

An official company account retrospectively dates the first flight to 20 March 2019 and describes a domestic-engine test on 16 April 2025. A dated engine test is distinct from the original first flight and from a general assertion that every aircraft has the same configuration or readiness.[29]

TEI’s July 2026 report explicitly names AKSUNGUR as PD170-powered. Earlier corporate sources differ on first engine-integration chronology, so no unresolved integration day is asserted here. The supplier relationship also does not establish a wholly domestic supply chain. Published endurance remains distinct from the result of any single flight.[15][8]

Versions & programme scope

The sources describe one programme with evolving engine and payload configurations, without a supported formal variant catalogue. One payload figure is omitted because the current page’s headline and table differ without explaining the configuration; the source difference is preserved rather than silently selecting a number.[8]
