What the figure measures
The Diaspora Office’s broad community estimate. Its stated 200,000 boundary is used for sorting and the community-reference sum, not as an exact count.

2024 census; reference 14 November 2024; released 22 June 2026

What the figure measures
Residents recorded as Armenian in the census national/ethnic composition. Census coverage excludes occupied territories; ethnicity is distinct from language, religion and citizenship.

Data limitation: The Office also mentions an unofficial 400,000, without a year or method. Geostat’s 169,296 appears separately as the 2024 census ethnicity count, excluding occupied territories. The definitions, dates and coverage differ; the community estimate and census count must not be added.

The embassy identifies Hayartun and community associations alongside Armenian schools and churches. These communities include longstanding local populations.

Community institutions

Georgia: Coverage and source notes

Selected examples include Apostolic and Catholic institutions. Preschool, supplementary education and directory-based school evidence are distinguished. Minority-rights findings are attributed to the Public Defender; they are not Armenian-only statistics.

Directory sources checked:

This is a selected guide, not a complete inventory or a ranking of influence. A direct source documents what an institution publishes about itself; it does not independently verify every claim or establish uninterrupted operation. Directory listings and historical records carry their stated limits. Dates identify the publication, documented activity or report reference period, as described in the entry. Missing source dates are shown explicitly. Inclusion does not imply partnership or endorsement.

Community issues and evidence gaps

Issues3

Issues are attributed to the cited evidence and retain the source date. Research gaps identify questions that the available evidence does not settle; they are not findings that a service or activity is absent.

State-language access and education

The Public Defender’s April 2025 account of a study of Armenian- and Azerbaijani-speaking participants identifies service-access language barriers and a need to expand bilingual education.

Georgia: Topics for further observation

These are proposed research topics, not findings about the community.

  • Update population evidence with clearly stated territorial coverage.
  • Study access to Armenian-language education and cooperation across local communities.
Georgia: How to read the figures

A census count, an ancestry response and a community estimate measure different populations. Dates and definitions remain attached to each figure. The covered-country sum uses selected reference values, range midpoints and stated boundaries for “more than” or “up to”; it is not a synchronized population count or a statistical confidence interval. Undated and historical estimates are not current resident counts. The independently published worldwide estimate must not be added to the country sum.
