What the figure measures
Broad community estimate attributed to the Armenian Diaspora Office. The undated page does not state its counting method or population reference year; this is not a host-country census count.

What the figure measures
Japan’s MFA lists 82 Armenian residents for June 2025; its Japanese page attributes the figure to the Ministry of Justice. This is a foreign-resident nationality indicator, not a census of Armenian ancestry or ethnicity, and it omits Armenians recorded under another nationality.

Data limitation: The Office page does not date its 70–80 estimate. Armenia’s embassy explicitly associates the same range with 2019. The 82 residents in Japan’s official statistic are not a count of every person of Armenian origin.

Institution sources are listed with their entries.

Main locations
Tokyo

Official Armenian profiles describe a small community mainly in Tokyo and name the Japan Armenia Friendship Association. SOAR lists a Japan chapter. Japan’s separate resident-nationality figure is 82 for June 2025.

Japan: Coverage and source notes

Selected records, not an exhaustive inventory. JAFA’s listing is distinct from the Japan-Armenia Society’s explicitly ended activity. No current Armenian school, church or independent community-medium publication was verified; historical Armenian-studies publications are not treated as active diaspora media.

Directory sources checked:

This is a selected guide, not a complete inventory or a ranking of influence. A direct source documents what an institution publishes about itself; it does not independently verify every claim or establish uninterrupted operation. Directory listings and historical records carry their stated limits. Dates identify the publication, documented activity or report reference period, as described in the entry. Missing source dates are shown explicitly. Inclusion does not imply partnership or endorsement.

Community issues and evidence gaps

Issues2

Issues are attributed to the cited evidence and retain the source date. Research gaps identify questions that the available evidence does not settle; they are not findings that a service or activity is absent.

Japan: Topics for further observation

These are proposed research topics, not findings about the community.

  • Clarify the reference year, definition and method of the community estimate.
  • Verify recent institutional activity and gaps in the selected directory.
Japan: How to read the figures

A census count, an ancestry response and a community estimate measure different populations. Dates and definitions remain attached to each figure. The covered-country sum uses selected reference values, range midpoints and stated boundaries for “more than” or “up to”; it is not a synchronized population count or a statistical confidence interval. Undated and historical estimates are not current resident counts. The independently published worldwide estimate must not be added to the country sum.
